The CAJ remains concerned that some media outlets view tying news
coverage to advertising as an acceptable practice. One such example is the
Alberta Fairview Post, part of the Bowes Publishers Ltd. chain. Its publisher
last week verified a reader's suspicions that a large local event was not
covered because its organizers hadn't purchased advertising, but maintains
editorial space is not for sale.
