OREN L. SUMPTER
Oren L. Sumpter, 87, of Normantown, Gilmer County, died Jan. 28, 1998, in St. Josephs Hospital, Parkersburg, after a long illness.
He was a former schoolteacher in Gilmer and Calhoun counties and director of Community Action. He was an employee of the Commission on Aging and a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at Upper Steer Run Baptist Church.
Surviving: wife, Gwen Alltop Sumpter; daughters, Sharon Schulz and Judy Hashman, both of ELyria, Ohio, Joan Fluharty of Canton, Ohio, Peggy Whyte of Wellston, Ohio; son, Bryan of Fort Wayne, Ind.; sisters, Maude James and Lucille Gerwig, both of Glenville; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Ellyson Mortuary, Glenville, with Elder Lary Fisher and Elder Roger Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Beall Cemetery, Normantown. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the mortuary.
