Wondering what "digital-age" means.
on 2009-06-29 by willrich
Overall, these could be used to put some pressure on administrators to move their own practice, but it would be great to see some descriptors or benchmarks. Any coming I wonder?

Benchmarks a great idea!
on 2009-06-30 by drezac
Let's show these to our Admins right now!

As far as benchmarks are concerned -- I believe the "Essential Conditions" serve as a starting point; however, they need to be much more explicit.
on 2009-07-09 by mac65k
The global discussion we have frames the essential conditions. I think ISTE is right to help all of us put structure to the work we do. I have seen good things coming from the NETS- students and teachers. Some states lack the leadership we need to discuss and more importantly act on essential educational tech learnings. We appreciate ISTE taking the lead.

I'm thinking of all the verbs that present the "help wanted" ad for administrative instructional leaders: model, facilitate, involve, promote, establish, ensure, meet, maintain, leverage, recruit, retain... Is it realistic? or do we settle for "good enough?" and what's that look like in the rubric, if NETS-A documentation eventually mimics NETS-S?

Ah yes, there's the rub! How to inspire and facilitate a shared vision?

SO MANY administrators see integration as a "We're finally done" event rather than an ongoing process. Once it's successful, they want to keep things status quo rather than continuing the evolution/revolution. The process is huge!

We have to streamline what is currently "on the plate." Never an excuse; currently a reality that retards progress.

2. Digital Age Learning Culture
Educational Administrators create, promote, and sustain a dynamic, digital-age learning culture that provides a rigorous, relevant, and engaging education for all students. Educational Administrators:

having administrators model tech "effectively" beyond ppt is problematic
on 2009-07-14 by drichards
I think slide presentations is a good place for training about the mission of technology infused pedagogy. How to train great presenters? How to use this to make learner friendly schools?
on 2009-07-17 by allysonsmith
The trick is to get everyone who presents to be competatuve about the presentations - choose one person to work closely with to develop either better ppt using sound and video or to use something else - even something simple like photostory

Love to see what some of the benchmarks are here. "Technology for Learning" needs some specific description.
on 2009-06-29 by nashworld
seems more general... as in technology "to learn" as opposed to "to facilitate management"

would require administrators to aid in more open access

This is a good step, but again, what does this look like. Is this a real re-envisioning of the learning practice? A real pedagogical shift?

How can administrators model collaboration? schools seem so "top down"
on 2009-06-29 by nashworld
implement a leadership team to decentralize power and innovation

I think this is a key ingredient for leadership (teachers and administrators), then add support.

Again, this seems like a challenging area. Administrators have to have a fairly proficient understanding of technology in order to achieve this.
on 2009-06-29 by nashworld
agreed... though nothing wrong with rigor in standards.

Technological skill and integration should be partial criteria for hire - a standard expectation that contributes to instructional expertise

This could be used as a piece of the compelling case to open things up.
on 2009-06-29 by nashworld
i worry about this one though. i think it is a critical piece, and i agree. however, i would hate to see folks who haven't reached step #1 immediately jump into the "equity" piece and buy thousands of laptops on pedagogical footings that might be shaky at best...
on 2009-06-29 by willrich
I don't think this is a conitinuum, is it? All at once! ;0)
