Exodus WhyReboot is a small (60KB) Windows application that displays a list of pending file operations that will occur after rebooting your computer. This is useful in determining why an installer has notified you that a reboot is needed.

Public Sticky notes

WhyReboot is a small (~60KB) Windows application that displays a list of pending file operations that will occur after rebooting your computer. We hope this helps you determine the extent of any post-reboot changes made by an installer. Why should you have to reboot your Windows-based computer so many times when installing software? Well, I've always wondered why any particular installation should require a reboot. In some cases, I've suspected that the reboot is not really necessary, but is done as a precautionary measure (or due to sheer laziness or outright incompetence) by the author of the install script. (My experience as a software developer confirms the prevalence of this sort of thing.) Further research only confirms this.
