It is important to get various perspectives of technology working in the classrooms, not just your own examples.

Public Sticky notes

Technology is ubiquitous, touching almost every part of out lives, our communities, our homes. Yet most schools lag far behind when it comes to integrating technology into classroom learning. Many are just beginning to explore the true potential tech offers for teaching and learning. Properly used, technology will help students acquire the skills they need to survive in a complex, highly technological knowledge-based economy.

Integrating technology into classroom instruction means more than teaching basic computer skills and software programs in a separate computer class

In particular, it must supporting four key components of learning: active engagement, participation in groups, frequent interaction and feedback, and connection to real-world experts. Effective technology integration is achieved when the use of technology is routine and transparent and when technology supports curricular goals.

New tech tools for visualizing and modeling, especially in the sciences, offer students ways to experiment and observe phenomenon and to view results in graphic ways that aid in understanding. And, as an added benefit, with technology tools and a project-learning approach, students are more likely to stay engaged and on task, reducing behavioral problems in the classroom.

Technology also changes the way teachers teach, offering educators effective ways to reach different types of learners and assess student understanding through multiple means. It also enhances the relationship between teacher and student. When technology is effectively integrated into subject areas, teachers grow into roles of adviser, content expert, and coach. Technology helps make teaching and learning more meaningful and fun. Return to our Technology Integration page to learn more.

I have a son in middle school, the school provides every 7 & 8th grader with a laptop. These computers are used for homework or in class projects. I am thrilled that he has this advantage to learn and grow with technology. My son has had a lot of difficulty in school, he is dyslexia most classes have been a struggle for him. However, I truly believe he has found his calling he enjoys every part of technology. Teachers have told me that if they are having a problem with their computers they can usually count on him to help them out. This has had a tremendous impact on my son, he feels really good that he has met with success in all parts of technology.
As an educator myself it is also important that I keep up to date with technology. This past summer I took a graduate course called Technology in the Classroom. I learned so much in this course. I learned about blogging, how to enhance my monthly newsletters, downloaded pictures from my digital camera, made an interactive slide show and also created a movie and put it to music and speaking. I have brought my knowledge back into the classroom and I am enhancing my curriculum with the skills I have learned
