However, upon understanding what the building was to accomplish physically – extend the campus fabric, create a sense of arrival at the campus edge, enhance the student circulation pathways to the heart of the University, and be highly visible as a testimony to Henry and Betty Rowan – Ballinger recommended a different location, one which could engage a pond that ultimately became its central focus.
