I think the 21st century skills are and OVERLAY or umbrella over all the content I teach. And YES I need to include tech resources, tools to the way I teach.

A book that you might want to take a look at is: Richardson, W. (2006). Blogs, wikis, podcasts, and other powerful web tools for classrooms (2nd ed.). Thousand Oaks, CA: Corwin Press. Richardson's book looks at technology in the classroom, technology in relationship to today's students, and it also offers practical information to incorporate technolgoy into the classroom, and it shows you the ins and outs of Web 2.0 (the read/write web).

blending of specific skills, content knowledge, expertise and literacies

To be effective, sustainable and affordable, assessments must use modern technologies to increase efficiency and timeliness.  Standardized tests alone can measure only a few of the important skills and knowledge students should learn. A balance of assessments, including high-quality standardized testing along with effective classroom assessments, offers students a powerful way to master the content and skills central to success.
