I visited the Baha'i House of Worship, an edifice which design was inspired by the lotus, "The exquisite beautiful flower, respected as an ancient symbol of purity and peace that is inseparably associated with worship and religion in India." The temple, designed by Architect Fariborz Sahba, and which took six years to build is surrounded by nine large pools of water and is nine-sided because "nine is the highest digit and symbolizes comprehensiveness, oneness and unity". Today, the temple receives an average of three and half million visitors annually, making it one of the most visited sites in the world.
